The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have concluded to suspend their proposed industrial action billed for Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
This was disclosed by the recently-appointed Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbahabiamila, on Monday night.
Punch Metro reported that both unions have threatened a shutdown following the removal of fuel subsidy which has lead to an increase in the cost of petroleum motor spirit, as well as, transportation, amongst others.
However, after two meetings with the Tinubu-led FG on Monday night, the parties agreed to shelve their proposed strike action.
Gbajabiamila said, “The NLC to suspend the notice of strike forthwith to enable further consultations
“The TUC and the NLC to continue the ongoing engagements with the Federal Government and secure closure on the resolutions above
“The Labour Centres and the Federal Government to meet on June 19, 2023, to agree on an implementation framework.”
