The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has increased the admission quota for the Faculty of Nursing at Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti from 190 to 300 students per session.
According to The PUNCH, this development was shared by the Director of ABUAD Corporate Affairs, Tunde Olofintila, in a statement on Sunday.
The increase was detailed in a letter from the Council’s Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Faruk Abubakar, titled ‘Increase in students’ enrolment into the Faculty of Nursing, ABUAD’ and dated July 18, 2024.
Olofintila quoted Dr. Abubakar, who praised ABUAD as “one of the standout institutions with several highly qualified (Nursing) lecturers who provide high-quality nursing education to the students. The university has well-equipped facilities and resources, including clinical sites for effective practical training experience for students.”
The letter further stated, “Leveraging on these strengths, I am pleased to inform you officially of the increase in students’ enrolment to 300 (from 190) students into the nursing programme of the Faculty of Nursing, ABUAD. The council is confident that the dedicated faculty at ABUAD will effectively accommodate this increase while maintaining the high regulatory standards expected.”
Olofintila also mentioned that Abubakar expressed confidence that this increase would broaden access to nursing education for aspiring individuals.
ABUAD’s Chancellor, Afe Babalola, expressed his delight, saying, “The university is living to his vision of establishing a university that will institutionalise quality and functional education, teach Nigerians how a university should be run and raise a new generation of leaders that will change the society for the better.”
At the 9th induction ceremony for 95 graduating students of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences in Ado-Ekiti, Babalola highlighted that “since our maiden convocation in October 2013, we have turned out 1,420 graduates. They are not only doing well, but they are also agents and leaders of reformation.”
