The Nigerian Ports Authority confirmed that no lives were lost following a fire incident at the APMT Apapa Terminal on Saturday.
The fire, which originated from one of the terminal’s cranes, was swiftly contained by NPA firefighters, with assistance from other agencies on-site.
In a statement on Saturday, NPA spokesperson Ikechukwu Onyemekara expressed relief over the outcome, stating, “We thank God that no lives were lost, and no additional facilities were affected before the fire was brought under control.”
Onyemekara praised the NPA’s firefighting team for their rapid response and assured the public that safety remains a key priority under the current leadership.
“The management, under Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, is dedicated to protecting lives and property at Nigeria’s ports,” he added, emphasizing the NPA’s commitment to enhancing operational safety and efficiency for port users and stakeholders.
