Nollywood actress, Jemima Osunde, has expressed her discontent with the growing trend in the film industry that pressures actors to become social media content creators in order to secure roles.
In a recent video shared across her social media platforms, Osunde voiced her frustration over this shift, emphasizing that the push for actors to be online influencers is primarily to promote their work, rather than focusing on their acting abilities.
She argued that acting should be about skill and performance, not the expectation of social media presence.
Osunde pointed out that Hollywood stars like Keanu Reeves have thrived in their careers with minimal social media involvement, underscoring that success should be rooted in talent, not online popularity.
“Now they are forcing actors to be social media content creators. It is now like, ‘You see that dance? You must dance on the internet.’ Why?
“It is like they are forcing everyone; so if you are not an actor with a social media presence, you are not going to be cast because you need to sell the film.
“That should not be my job! Like, how many times do you see Keanu Reeves when he is not on your screen as an actor?” she said.
Known for her roles in the TV series Shuga and her film work, including her critically acclaimed performance in The Delivery Boy (2018), Osunde was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 15th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
In addition, she recently addressed rumours about undergoing Brazilian Butt Lift surgery, asserting her support for natural beauty and clarifying that she had not altered her body surgically.
She took the opportunity to challenge the legitimacy of such claims, subtly countering the narrative that she had undergone cosmetic surgery.
