The Nigerian Armed Forces have been lauded for their efforts to maintain peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations by an organization called Northern Youths Vanguard for Development.
The organisation issued a statement on Monday in Abuja that was jointly signed by its President, Mr. Yakubu Dauda, and Secretary, Mrs. Roseline Musa.
The peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations across Nigeria, according to the group, demonstrated the military’s resolve to uphold its commitment to maintaining the nation’s peace.
The organization expressed happiness over the calm Christmas and New Year celebrations enjoyed by Nigerians, particularly those in the North-East.
It encouraged the populace to keep providing the military with useful information in order to collaborate with them.
“On the new year eve, banditary kingpin, Gwoska Dankarami, escaped death by the whiskers when air strikes of the Nigerian military targeted his hideout along Kaura Namoda Road in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
“Similarly, troops of 199 Special Forces Battalion hit out at terrorists on the eve of new year along Maiduguri to Damboa Road, killing some of them.
“Reports from the North East is cheering and gives us hope that, very soon, normalcy will be completely restored.
“We in NYVD commend the Armed Forces of Nigeria under Gen. Lucky Irabor for making all this possible.
“We are very hopeful it will get better for the North and Nigeria as a whole,” it said.
In order to avoid having their children recruited by criminals for harmful actions, the group recommended parents to keep an eye on their children’s activities.
