The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has redeemed his pledge of gifting the players and officials of the Nigerian Professional Football League Champions, Rivers United the sum of $20,000 for winning the league title for the first time.
The club made the announcement of receiving the gift on its official Twitter handle on Saturday.
It read, “Governor Nyesom Wike redeems $20,000 pledge to each player and official of Rivers United for emerging champions of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League.”
Wike had promised the team after they emerged champions of the 2022/23 NPFL season in June.
The Stanley Eguma team had a remarkable campaign, losing only four matches throughout the season.
Rivers United will be campaigning in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
