The National Youth Service Corps has clarified that President Bola Tinubu has not increased corps members’ allowances, despite circulating claims.
Reports had suggested that the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, announced an allowance increase during his visit to the Ogun State Orientation Camp in Sagamu on Sunday.
However, a statement released on Monday by NYSC spokesman Eddy Megwa refuted these claims, calling them a “misrepresentation of facts.”
“For clarity’s sake, General Ahmed while addressing corps members said it is expected that they would benefit from the minimum wage when it is approved, he did not say the President has approved any increment in Corps Members’ allowance,” the statement read.
In addition to addressing the issue of allowances, the DG advised corps members on various topics during his visit.
These included patriotism, entrepreneurship, security consciousness, and community development, all aimed at fostering youth development for leadership roles.
The NYSC urged members of the press to ensure accurate reporting of NYSC activities to avoid causing unnecessary concern among stakeholders.
