Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Friday, said that he is only sure that one pastor in Nigeria will make heaven.
Chief Obasanjo made this comment while speaking at the funeral service of the late Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr Sunday Mbang, in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday 11, 2023.
Late Mbang was a former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria and the first black person, to become the President of the World Methodist Council.
The 86-year-old cleric died in Uyo, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
Speaking at his funeral on Friday, The former president noted that the late Mbang is the only Christian leader in Nigeria who is sure, would make it to heaven because he was not only forthright but also a man of great wisdom.
Obasanjo who described the late cleric as a man who is always sought after for advice, because of his forthrightness, revealed that he consulted him while planning to run for presidency in 1998, shortly after he came out of the prison, said Mbang’s advice was invaluable to him, noting that he gained enormously from it.
He added that whenever he wanted to sadvifrom from the late cleric when Governor Emmanuel Udom was the governor of Akwa Ibom State, he would visit Akwa Ibom State under the pretext of wanting to see the governor, but the person he was really going to see was Mbang.
