The Ogun State Government has firmly denied claims that it spent N1 trillion on the reconstruction of the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway.
The rebuttal came in response to allegations of financial mismanagement circulating in a social media document titled “#Where is our money?”
In an official statement released on Thursday, the government dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
The statement, signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media to the state governor, described the document as a “fabricated attack by political adversaries” aimed at discrediting Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
“We categorically state that the allegations are entirely unfounded, mischievous, and merely contrived to tarnish the good image of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration and officials of the Ogun State Government,” the statement read.
The government further characterized the accusations as a “laughable hatchet job” and a “figment of the imagination” of those behind the campaign.
Akinmade added, “It is instructive to note that the disgruntled elements who are behind this mendacious propaganda had been architects of political disorder in Ogun State in times past.
Some of them actively participated in ensuring that previous administrations were distracted and hindered from finishing the course of governance well.
They are aggrieved and startled that even after a year into his second term, Governor Dapo Abiodun is still waxing stronger and remaining focused on his job.”
The statement concluded with a declaration that the attempt to label the governor with corruption charges was bound to fail.
“In their desperation and plot of shenanigans, they probably think putting a toga of corruption around the Governor’s neck would diminish his rising profile. They have failed woefully!” the statement said.
