The Ogun State Police Command has begun a thorough search for a patient identified as Saba Elizabeth, who escaped from the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, in Ogun State for inability to pay medical bills.
The patient reportedly fled on Saturday after having treatment at the medical centre for an undisclosed disease.
Reports revealed that she was admitted to the medical center’s gynecology unit on November 11, 2023, and was supposed to be discharged on November 16, 2023.
She was unable to leave the hospital, however, due to her failure to meet her financial obligations of the hospital.
She was alleged to have lied to hospital staff that she went to buy food at a local store but never returned to the hospital, knowing she could not pay her medical bills.
It was learnt that after efforts to trace her ended in futility, the Chief Security Officer of the medical centre, Akpoji Joshua, reported the matter to the Kemta Police Division on Sunday.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola told newsmen on Tuesday that the police in Kemta Division were assisting the hospital in locating the patient.
“We are investigating to unravel her whereabouts through her family members,” she simply stated.
