The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 51-year-old man referred to as Oluranti Badejo, for allegedly strangling his wife, Folasade, 40, to death.
Punch Metro reported that the tragic incident occurred in the Mowe area of the state.
Confirming the report, the police on Thursday said that the man strangled his wife during a heated argument and thereafter used a hot iron to burn parts of her body, making it appear as if she had been electrocuted.
However, their eight-year-old daughter who witnessed the ordeal told the cops that Oluranti strangled her mother to death.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed the suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Mowe Divisional Headquarters by the deceased’s younger sister.
Oyeyemi said, “Upon the report, the DPO Mowe division, SP Folake Afeniforo, quickly dispatched the divisional detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.
“The lifeless body of the victim was there and then evacuated to the mortuary in Sagamu for post-mortem examination.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect strangled the deceased during a scuffle as a result of a minor disagreement.
“Having realized that he had killed his wife, the suspect used a hot iron to burn parts of the body of the deceased, so as to look as if she was electrocuted. But unfortunately for him, their 8-year-old daughter was there and witnessed the whole thing.
“It was the daughter who testified seeing her father strangulating her deceased mother to death.”
The PPRO however said the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had directed that the suspect be taken to the homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations and diligent prosecution.
