Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has raised concerns over increasing debt owed it by residential consumers in Ogun State.
The IBEDC Chief Executive Officer, Engr Kingsley Achife, who made this known on Monday also called on the public not to shield workers of the company indulging in unwholesome practices.
According to him, about 20 of such erring officials has been sent packing in the last five months.
He explained that residential consumers in the state owed a whopping over N67 billion, warning that mass disconnection of residential areas imminent if people failed to pay their debts.
Achife spoke at a community engagement in Abeokuta with customers within Abeokuta metropolis and Sagamu to seek better working relationship.
He implored them to pay their debts, “which are now becoming a source of concern to the company.”
Achife, who was represented by lead media relations officer, IBEDC Ibadan, Mrs Busolami Tunwase, said “time is now for the consumers to begin to pay their debts, to avoid mass disconnection.”
