The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps, known as So-Safe Corps, has apprehended two teenagers, Abdullahi Idowu, an 18-year-old ex-convict, and 17-year-old Samson Ojo, for allegedly stealing generator engine components at the Idiroko border area within Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by the Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo, through the outfit’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.
The statement said, “Abdullahi Idowu, 18, a resident of Babaloke area, Idiroko, and Samson Ojo, 17, residing at Etikoto, Ikolaje area, Idiroko—were apprehended around 10:30 p.m. on November 17, 2024. Both locations fall under the Ipokia Local Government Area.”
The suspects were reportedly nabbed during a late-night patrol conducted jointly by the Special Squad and the Idiroko Divisional Team of the So-Safe Corps, under the leadership of Chief Superintendent Abdulkareem Abdulrazaq.
During the operation, two bags containing stolen generator parts were recovered from the teenagers.
Ganzallo disclosed that a preliminary inquiry revealed that Idowu, who had previously served a jail term in the Republic of Benin, confessed to pilfering the generator engine components from a customs office in Idiroko.
Idowu also admitted to an earlier theft of a large battery the previous Friday, which he claimed to have sold to a scrap dealer.
The Corps, determined to uncover the full extent of the crime, took the suspects to the scene of the theft, where it was confirmed that the stolen generator parts belonged to a customs office.
Further investigation led to the discovery of additional generator components hidden in a nearby bush, underscoring the scope of the theft.
Ganzallo noted that the suspects, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area 1 Command, Idiroko, for detailed investigation and appropriate action.
This latest arrest highlights the continued efforts of the So-Safe Corps to ensure the safety and security of Ogun State residents, particularly in border communities prone to criminal activities.
