The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency has cautioned residents against blocking roads for social gatherings, stating that it is illegal and poses a threat to public safety.
According to The PUNCH, the Commander and CEO, Seni Ogunyemi, emphasized that permits from local and state governments do not grant permission to block public roads.
Ogunyemi stressed that TRACE is empowered to ensure free flow of traffic and enforce laws, including checking vehicle documents. However, ‘stop and search’ falls outside their jurisdiction.
Ogunyemi said, “It is illegal to block roads for social parties under sections six and seven of the law which established TRACE. The problem is lawlessness on the part of the people.
“They always say that they got permits from local governments but they do not know that it is only to organise social parties and not block public roads. TRACE must be involved too, to have a free flow of traffic at such social gatherings”.
He urged motorists to plan their journeys, manage time effectively, use seatbelts, avoid making calls while driving, and obey traffic laws.
TRACE officers prioritize public enlightenment over enforcement, aiming to curb lawlessness through education.
