The Ogun State Government has vowed to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice for the victims of a robbery and rape incident involving four female students of Tai Solarin University of Education Ijagun.
PUNCH METRO reported that the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday in the Abapawa community of Odogbolu Local Government Area.
The Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, in a statement on Tuesday evening, assured that the government will utilise all available resources to apprehend the individuals responsible for the heinous act and ensure they face appropriate consequences.
This is coming after Salako-Oyedele visited the victims of the rape incidents at the Ogun State Hospital, Ijebu Ode.
Subsequently, the victims were transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, as per the directive of the state government, in order to receive appropriate medical treatment and rehabilitation.
According to Salako-Oyedele, the government was informed about the regrettable incident at Abapawa community on Tuesday morning by Hon Ladejobi Adebayo, the Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government.
She said upon the briefing, Governor Dapo Abiodun promptly instructed the security personnel, under the leadership of the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, to proceed to the village and ensure that the culprits are brought to book.
According to Salako-Oyedele, the Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun, had personally visited the location of the event and was diligently making efforts to locate the individuals responsible, so that they may be subjected to the full extent of legal consequences.
During a subsequent meeting with the varsity management team, student representatives, and various officials including the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, and the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Alamutu, Salako-Oyedele said:
“I am on a fact-finding mission to establish what happened and what could be done to support the victims immediately and subsequently, apprehend the criminals and of course, prevent such a thing happening again.”
She charged the school management to work with the concerned community, the police and the students to develop stakeholder engagements to put in place mechanisms that will guarantee that the lives and properties of the students who live off campus are secured.
