France’s Euro 2024 squad announcement brought surprises and snubs, with England-born Nigeria forward, Michael Olise, Christopher Nkunku, and Malo Gusto missing out.
Didier Deschamps included N’Golo Kante, who made a surprising return at 33, after moving to Al-Ittihad.
Despite his absence from the national team, Kante has a chance to represent Les Bleus again.
Olise, born to a Nigerian father and French-Algerian mother, impressed at Crystal Palace but was overlooked.
Nkunku’s injury-hit season also led to his exclusion. The squad also omitted Chelsea’s Axel Disasi and Malo Gusto, while including Alphonse Areola, William Saliba, and Ibrahima Konate.
Deschamps chose a 25-man squad immediately, despite 26 being allowed, unlike other nations naming preliminary lists.
This move has stirred up discussions, especially regarding Olise’s international future, as he remains eligible to play for Nigeria, Algeria, and England.
