Super Falcons of Nigeria have thrashed the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 1-0 at the MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja on Monday evening.
The result means that the Super Falcons went through on 1-0 aggregate after a 0-0 draw in Cameroon last week.
They have now progressed to the final round of qualifiers for the women’s football event at the 2024 Olympics.
A first-half goal from Esther Okoronkwo was the sole difference in a keenly contested match in the third round of qualifiers for the quadrennial Games.
She scored the only goal of the match in the 14th minute.
Okoronkwo was well position to tap home the ball from the near post after a brilliant slalom run into the box by Jennifer Echegini.
The Indomitable Lionesses ended the game with ten players after Enganemben Annie was shown a red card for a reckless challenge on Chiamaka Nnadozie.
Nnadozie also made important saves for Nigeria as the Cameroonians poured forward, creating chances to level the game and upturn the encounter with an away goal.
Super Falcons will face Tanzania or South Africa in the final round of qualifiers.
