Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has offered insights into the team’s performance this season, defending manager Erik ten Hag amidst speculations about the Dutchman’s potential departure from the club.
Onana highlighted that the team’s performance could have been significantly better if not for the numerous injury setbacks they faced.
Addressing these concerns before the FA Cup final against Manchester City, Onana said, “I’m not here to defend him because he is more than capable of doing that himself. But he is a really good guy, a positive coach, and tactically astute.
“If he had the full squad available, it would likely have been different for him, for us, the club, and the fans.”
Ten Hag’s second season at Old Trafford has been challenging. After a successful first season, where Manchester United finished third and secured the Carabao Cup, replicating that success proved difficult.
They exited the Champions League at the group stage and finished eighth in the Premier League.
Their only chance of securing European football next season lies in winning the FA Cup against their city rivals.
This final is a rematch of 2023 season where Manchester City secured the second of their treble with a 2-1 victory, thanks to Ilkay Gundogan’s brace at Wembley.
