One person has been confirmed dead with eight others injured in an accident that occured at Ukpo Junction, along the Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway.
According to The PUNCH, the incident which occured late on Wednesday was said to have involved two vehicles, a commercial Toyota/Hiace bus with Registration number JRV 616 XA and another commercial Toyota/Hiace bus with registration number JJJ 179 XS.
The vehicles were transporting 14 individuals, including four adult males, six adult females, a kid male, and three child females. Five individuals escaped unharmed.
According to an eyewitness, one of the tires on the bus with the registration number JRV 616 XA separated while the vehicle was in motion, causing it to collide with the oncoming bus.
The Acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Margaret Onabe, confirmed the accident in a statement on behalf of the Anambra State Sector Commander, Adeoye Irelewuyi
Onabe stated that the crash victims were brought to the Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital in Amaku, Awka, where a doctor confirmed the death of one patient and transferred him to the hospital’s morgue.
She stated that others were being treated by the nurse assigned to the FRSC support location in Nteje after receiving first aid.
“The Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, commiserated with the family of the dead victim, and sent his prayers to the injured persons.
“He warned motorists to desist from excessive speed and wrongful overtaken, especially this festive period that the road is very busy. Drive to save lives on our roads,” she added.
