An improvised explosive device detonated during a protest against bad governance at Deribe Junction, near Federal Government Girls’ College Monguno Annex in Bulumkutu area, resulting in the death of one male victim and injuring 11 others, according to the Borno Police Command.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Police Commissioner Yusuf Lawal reported the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday, noting that the injured were taken to State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri for treatment and the deceased’s body was sent for autopsy.
Lawal stated that police personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Device, Base 13, were swiftly deployed to secure the area around a nearby filling station.
“In a separate incident, a case of culpable homicide was reported in Biu local government area,” Lawal said.
In a separate event in Biu Local Government Area, Lawal detailed a case of culpable homicide. Muhammad Wakshama reported that his son-in-law, Ibrahim Bulama, had struck his wife, Maryam Ibrahim, on the head during a domestic dispute, causing fatal injuries.
Maryam was taken to General Hospital Biu but was pronounced dead on Thursday. Bulama has been arrested and an exhibit recovered, with investigations underway.
These incidents bring the total number of deaths in Borno State to 17 over the past 48 hours, with numerous injuries reported.
Commissioner Lawal assured citizens that thorough investigations are ongoing and that order has been restored in the affected areas.
