The invasion of the Oshodi area of Lagos State by men of the Nigerian Army early Monday morning has been linked to the alleged stabbing of a yet-to-be-identified person by some hoodlums.
Punch Metro reported that there was a heavy presence of soldiers at Oshodi, leading to the arrest of several suspected hoodlums, also known as ‘Agberos’.
An anonymous source who spoke to Punch Metro from the scene of the operation that the soldiers who came in their numbers were suspected to have been combing the area for suspected hoodlums.
It was also gathered that the operation was a follow-up move after suspected hoodlums had on Saturday attacked a civilian, stabbing the victim while trying to rob him.
“A boy was stabbed on Saturday by the hoodlums in Oshodi. It seemed they were trying to extort the guy, and he was trying to defend himself.
“However, he was able to escape the hoodlums. He would later come back on Sunday in the company of soldiers who surveyed the area.
“The soldiers came back early Monday morning, taking strategic positions before they started to arrest people who dressed or looked suspicious.
“The numbers of soldiers present at Oshodi were around 100, while they were able to arrest over about 100 suspected hoodlums,” the source stated.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army is yet to provide an official explanation for the operation.
