Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, who has delivered remarkable performances for Napoli over the past two seasons, reportedly prefers a move to Arsenal.
However, the Gunners’ recent shift in focus towards acquiring a winger instead of a striker could complicate matters.
With a substantial €130 million release clause and competition from Chelsea, Arsenal must act swiftly if they hope to secure the sought-after forward.
Italian journalist Valter De Maggio, speaking on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, revealed Osimhen’s preference for Arsenal over other potential suitors, and noted that if Arsenal doesn’t make an offer, the Nigeria international might consider a move to the Middle East.
“Osimhen wants the Premier League, if the offer doesn’t come then he would consider the Arab one. There is no club paying the clause today, Osimhen would like Arsenal otherwise he would consider Saudi Arabia,” De Maggio said.
The “clause” refers to the €130 million release clause set by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who is not open to negotiation.
Osimhen’s desire to play in the Premier League has been rumoured for some time, with both Arsenal and Chelsea identified as interested clubs.
However, many top teams have been linked to the 25-year-old striker, who netted 17 goals this season and 31 last season.
Recent reports indicated that Arsenal has shifted their transfer priorities, now focusing on acquiring a new winger, possibly influenced by Kai Havertz’s recent performances.
This change could pose a challenge to any potential move for Osimhen, as Arsenal may be reluctant to meet Napoli’s high asking price.
Whether Arsenal’s interest in Osimhen will be reignited or if the striker will explore other options, including a potential move to Saudi Arabia, remains uncertain.
