Victor Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, has firmly stated that Napoli’s star forward is not a mere commodity to be shipped off to Saudi Arabia.
This declaration comes amidst rumours suggesting that Osimhen might be used as a bargaining chip in a deal with a Saudi club this summer.
Recently, Al Qadsiah, following in the footsteps of other Saudi clubs like Al Ahli and Al Hilal, has made an offer for the Napoli striker.
There are predictions that Saudi deal-makers may push for a last-minute bid for the reigning African Footballer of the Year.
In a post on X on Monday, Calenda addressed the speculation, stating, “Victor is not a package to be shipped far away to make room for new prophets. Victor still has so much to do IN EUROPE.” He added, “Osimhen is a Napoli player, with a contract recently renewed with mutual satisfaction.”
Calenda emphasized, “He made history and when there were major offers (also this year) we always accepted the club’s decisions.”
He further noted, “Victor was elected African footballer of the year, 8th at the Ballon d’Or. There is need for respect and balance.”
Calenda had previously taken to social media to refute ‘fake news’ regarding a potential swap deal between Chelsea and Napoli for Osimhen.
While Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Chelsea have all shown interest in the forward, it appears that Chelsea remains the most persistent suitor as the summer transfer window nears its end.
Yhe Blues have already agreed to offload striker Romelu Lukaku to Antonio Conte’s team.
On Sunday night, football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, reported that Al-Ahli made a renewed attempt to acquire Osimhen, offering approximately £60 million for the 25-year-old.
Calenda’s comments suggest that a high-profile move could still be in the cards, giving Chelsea renewed hope.
Osimhen has previously expressed a desire to play in the Premier League and has shown admiration for Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, who is a known supporter of the former Lille forward.
Despite signing a new contract with Napoli in December, Osimhen has struggled with form and fitness, scoring 26 goals two seasons ago but only 15 last term.
Napoli, crowned Serie A champions under Luciano Spalletti, experienced a tumultuous season with three different managers and a chaotic defense.
Calenda has earlier criticized the speculative reports about Osimhen, saying, “I read about imaginative exchanges with Victor sent here and there as if he were a package to be delivered quickly. This package, however, is the top scorer of the third scudetto in Napoli’s history. Respect and stop with fake news!!!!”
Chelsea have until 11 p.m. on Friday, August 30, to finalize their transfers, with the Italian transfer market closing at the same time.
