Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala from Nigeria have secured spots in the final three nominees for the CAF Player of the Year in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
Osimhen, the top scorer in the 2023 African Cup Nations qualifiers, competes against Mohammed Salah from Egypt, Achraf Hakimi from Morocco, and Riyad Mahrez from Algeria for the prestigious award.
His remarkable performance contributed significantly to Napoli’s Scudetto victory, clinching the Golden Boot with 26 goals.
Meanwhile, Oshoala, the reigning African women’s player of the year, contends with Thembi Klagtlana from South Africa and Barbara Banda from Zambia.
Oshoala’s exceptional record includes 21 goals in 28 games, guiding FC Barcelona to the Spanish League title, and being the top scorer for the Spanish club with 27 goals across all competitions.
Notably, she played a pivotal role in Barcelona’s retention of the domestic title and triumph in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Furthermore, Oshoala made history at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup by becoming the first Nigerian and female African player to score in three different editions of the tournament.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for December 11, 2023, in Marrakech, Morocco.
