Former Nigeria striker Peter Ijeh believes potential suitors are steering clear of Victor Osimhen due to the Napoli striker’s attitude and character.
In a Facebook comment on Tuesday, Ijeh, who spent much of his career in Scandinavia, highlighted that Europe’s football community places high importance on attitude and character, something he feels Osimhen doesn’t grasp.
“How I wish he understood that Europe is a small community that takes attitude and character as keys because it is directly influenced by children, and at the same time, they are notorious for double standards. Even Lagos is bigger than six countries, so it is more or less a community where everybody knows everybody,” said Ijeh, apparently referencing Osimhen’s verbal clash with former Super Eagles coach Finidi George.
Osimhen, who has declared his intention to leave the Diego Maradona Stadium, has played his final match for Napoli.
Although the club is open to selling him, his £100 million release clause has been a significant barrier.
Napoli has recently lowered the asking price to £85 million, sparking interest from Manchester United.
However, like Chelsea and Arsenal, the Red Devils have also pulled out of the race and are now negotiating with Alvaro Morata.
Napoli even offered Osimhen to Manchester United, proposing a deal that included Mason Greenwood plus cash.
New Napoli coach, Antonio Conte, has also reportedly informed Osimhen that he won’t be the main striker for the next season.
