Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has welcomed Friday’s Supreme Court judgement that sacked the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party, describing the decision as a step towards restoring peace, unity, and order within the party.
Reacting to the ruling, Governor Otti stated that the judgement had vindicated the leadership of the party, which had long maintained that the tenure of the Abure-led executive had expired.
According to the governor, this expiration was the basis for the formation of the Labour Party’s National Caretaker Committee, currently chaired by Esther Nenadi Usman with Darlington Nwokocha as Secretary.
He explained that the establishment of the committee was aimed at ensuring harmony and cohesion within the party, and to consolidate the progress recorded during the last general election.
Governor Otti praised the Supreme Court for what he described as a well-considered decision that aligned with the expectations of true members of the Labour Party and Nigerians at large.
He said, “The leadership of the party has been vindicated.”
He added, “The tenure of the Abure-led National Working Committee had long expired which informed the decision to set up the National Caretaker Committee led by Esther Nenadi Usman as Chairman and Darlington Nwokocha as secretary.”
Governor Otti also expressed appreciation to party faithful who remained steadfast during the period of leadership dispute, acknowledging their resilience while the struggle for the soul of the party endured.
He called on former national officers of the party to set aside differences and collaborate with the current National Executive Committee and the National Caretaker Committee to advance the Labour Party’s vision.
He assured that both he and other party leaders remain committed to building a broad-based and inclusive political platform.
He said, “We are committed to building an all-inclusive party devoid of discrimination and favoritism.”
