Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has appointed Hon. Justice Lekan Adekanye Ogunmoye as the Acting Chief Judge of Ekiti State.
This new role took effect on November 5, 2024, following the recent passing of Hon. Justice John Oyewole Adeyeye on November 4.
In the official statement issued by the Governor’s Media Adviser, Yinka Oyebode, Governor Oyebanji emphasized that this appointment was made in accordance with his constitutional mandate.
Citing Section 271 (4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), Oyebanji exercised his authority to ensure continuity in the state’s judiciary.
The statement read, “Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has appointed Hon. Justice Lekan Adekanye Ogunmoye as Acting Chief Judge of the State. This is in furtherance of the powers conferred on the Governor by Section 271 (4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). The appointment of Hon Justice Ogunmoye takes effect from November 5, 2024. He replaces the former Chief Judge, Hon Justice John Oyewole Adeyeye, who passed on November 4, 2024.”
Justice Ogunmoye, a respected figure in Ekiti’s judicial system, now assumes this critical position to uphold judicial operations across the state.
Hon. Justice Ogunmoye, born on November 6, 1963, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987 and later appointed as a judge on April 1, 2010.
Oyebanji’s swift decision highlights his commitment to preserving judicial stability amid the loss of Justice Adeyeye, who was noted for his contributions to the state judiciary.
