The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board has announced a revised timetable for its ongoing teachers’ recruitment interviews, with changes made to avoid a clash with Isese Day, a significant cultural celebration in the state.
The interview session originally planned for Tuesday, August 20, 2024, has now been rescheduled to Monday, August 26, 2024, in recognition of Isese Day, which is observed annually on August 20.
This day is dedicated to honouring and preserving the rich Yoruba cultural heritage, particularly for adherents of the Yoruba traditional religion.
The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran explained the decision in an official statement released on Tuesday. “We recognize the importance of Isese Day to the cultural fabric of Oyo State and believe that all candidates should have the opportunity to participate in the recruitment process without any cultural or religious conflicts,” he said.
The affected local government areas include Saki West, Saki East, Irepo, Oriire, Olorunsogo, Orelope, Ogbomoso North, and Ogbomoso South. Dr. Adeniran emphasized the importance of adhering to the new schedule and noted that the Board’s decision has been well-received by stakeholders. “This adjustment reflects our commitment to respecting cultural practices and ensuring a fair process for all candidates,” he added.
