A women’s basketball tournament was disrupted in Mansfield, Texas, USA over claims that a gunman fired shots, leaving hundreds of people in panic.
As seen in a video uploaded by CNN, the match was abandoned as terrified players and spectators were forced to scamper for safety while some dropped to the ground to avoid any potential bullet hit.
Witnesses claimed to have heard gunshots, which prompted a massive panic among the crowd, but Police officers who arrived at the scene to control the situation revealed that no shots had been fired, and no one was injured.
In a statement released shortly after the incident, the Mansfield Police Department said, “At this time, we have not located any evidence to support the initial reports of shots fired. We are currently investigating the situation and will provide updates as they become available.”
The tournament, which was being held at the Mansfield Fieldhouse, was suspended temporarily. It later resumed after police declared the area safe.
