A British woman in her 30s has died following an attack by a pet dog in Coventry.
The incident took place inside a residence on Wexford Road around 12:15 BST on Monday, according to the ambulance service.
Upon arrival, paramedics found the woman in critical condition. Due to “safety concerns,” police officers assisted in quickly moving her outside.
Despite receiving advanced life support from paramedics, she succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward.
West Midlands Police reported that the dog was seized and the woman’s death has been referred to the coroner for further investigation.
While the dog’s breed remains unconfirmed, it is not believed to be one of the banned breeds.
Ch Insp David Amos commented, “We understand that this is a distressing and tragic incident and we would like to thank the local community for their support and to our emergency services colleagues who dealt with this incident. Our thoughts remain firmly with the family and loved ones of the woman who has sadly died and will be informing the coroner of her death.”
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service added, “With help from police, the woman was rapidly removed from the property due to safety concerns.”
Despite the paramedics’ best efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. No other individuals were harmed in the attack.
