Manchester City stars, Phil Foden and Bunny Shaw have been named as the men’s and women’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year, respectively, following an outstanding season.
This was announced at the PFA awards ceremony held on Tuesday evening.
Phil Foden, 24, played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s triumphant campaign, where they secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Foden’s remarkable contribution of 19 goals and eight assists was instrumental to City’s success, earning him well-deserved recognition from his fellow professionals.
On the women’s side, Jamaican forward Bunny Shaw emerged as the top scorer in the Women’s Super League, netting an impressive 21 goals.
Despite Manchester City narrowly missing out on the title to Chelsea on goal difference, Shaw’s clinical performances did not go unnoticed, and she was rightfully awarded the PFA Player of the Year accolade.
In the Young Player of the Year categories, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Manchester United’s Grace Clinton were the standout winners.
Palmer, who netted 22 goals and provided 11 assists, finished as the second-highest scorer in the Premier League, behind only City’s Erling Haaland.
His efforts have solidified his reputation as one of the league’s brightest young talents.
Grace Clinton, on loan at Tottenham last season, made a significant impact in a struggling Spurs side, contributing four goals and four assists in 20 WSL appearances.
Her performances have earned her the PFA Young Player of the Year award, further cementing her status as a rising star in women’s football.
The PFA Merit awards were presented to two individuals for their exceptional contributions to the sport.
Fara Williams, the most capped England player with 172 appearances and 40 goals, was honoured for her illustrious career, which included helping England secure third place at the 2015 World Cup and representing Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Dean Lewington, 40, received the second Merit award, recognizing his extraordinary career with MK Dons.
Lewington made history by breaking the EFL record for most appearances with a single club, marking his 771st game for MK Dons last December.
In other notable awards, Crysencio Summerville of West Ham was named the Championship Player of the Year after a stellar season with Leeds United, where he scored 21 goals in all competitions.
Alfie May, now with Birmingham City, was recognized as the League One Player of the Year, having scored a league-high 23 goals for Charlton Athletic.
The League Two award went to Notts County’s Jodi Jones, who set an English league record with 24 assists, helping the Magpies secure their first season back in the EFL since 2018-19.
The Premier League Team of the Year was also revealed, featuring Arsenal’s David Raya in goal, with a backline of Kyle Walker, Man City, Gabriel (Arsenal, William Saliba, Arsenal, and Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool.
The midfield trio comprised Declan Rice, Arsenal, Rodri, Man City and Martin Odegaard, Arsenal, while the forward line included Ollie Watkins, Aston Villa, Erling Haaland, Man City, and Phil Foden, Man City.
2024 PFA awards highlighted the extraordinary talent across both the men’s and women’s games, with Foden and Shaw standing out as the best of the best, alongside the promising young talents of Palmer and Clinton.
