The Singer Market in Kano, which is a well-known commodities market and is situated along Ibrahim Taiwo Road near Bello Road, has been engulfed in flames.
Eyewitnesses say that the fire began in the middle of the night but wasn’t put out until well after 8 a.m.
Firefighters alongside marketers were working to bring the situation under control and quench the fire from spreading to other places.
One of the marketers, Abubakar Aminu, whose was burnt said he recieved a call from gate men around 1:15am but when he arrived around 2:00am his shop was ablaze and he could carry anything out of it.
According to him, the fire spread to three more plazas which contained over 100 shops and store with goods worth millions of Naira.
“When I arrived I found that my shop was completely razed by the fire. I came around 2am. Honestly we have lost a lot.
“My neighbor whose shop was also burnt to ashes uploaded three trailers of goods yesterday night. They are all gone now,” he said.
Journalists at the scene of the event reported that “The house is called Gidan Sojoji and has about 10 shops in front and warehouses inside. There is a lot of wealth inside. it also spreads to Savanah house and then to Bello Dandago road.”
Singer is said to be located along Ibrahim Taiwo road in Kano and it is the largest market where food stuffs are sold in the state.
This is the third fire outbreak within two weeks in major markets of the state.
