Following a severe downpour, hundreds of inhabitants of Oyo Atate’s Ido local government region lost property worth millions of naira to flooding.
According to Daily Post, the torrential rains on Friday evening affected and damaged the livelihoods of hundreds of residents in the local government’s cities and villages.
Some of the affected areas are Omi Adio, Ido and Apata.
It was discovered on Sunday that a significant number of shops, vehicles, and buildings with a substantial monetary value at Omi Adio market were impacted, while farmlands and fish ponds were also inundated as a result of the heavy rainfall.
According to Festus Adesina, a farmer who was impacted by the incident, a total of 80 fish farms were affected.
He expressed regret over the investment of more than N10 million in their fish farming venture, which unfortunately resulted in the complete loss of funds due to flooding.
A trader, Alhaja Alimot Adeleke, who was similarly impacted, made an appeal to philanthropic individuals in Nigeria to provide assistance to the victims.
She stated that she incurred losses in the form of bags of garri, bags of cassava flowers, and other food items due to the flooding incident.
According to Adeleke, she utilised the shop as a means of supporting her three children following the passing of her spouse.
“Now, where do I start from, everything is gone in the flood. Please help, please help. I am finished”.
A fish farmer with five fish ponds located in Omi Adio and Ido town, Mr. Isiaka Kamorudeen, experienced complete loss of fish in his ponds due to heavy rainfall.
“I have concluded plans to harvest the fish, they were already five months only to see all the ponds emptied by flood. I even saw some of the fishes on the main road where some youths were fighting over them. This is a tragedy that will not be forgotten in life”.
