The Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency has announced the commencement of pharmaceutical product manufacturing.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, this initiative was revealed by the agency’s Executive Secretary, Kim Bot, during an interview on Thursday in Jos.
Bot, a pharmacist by profession, highlighted that the agency has successfully manufactured five pharmaceutical products locally.
These products include a cough syrup, an antacid, Mist. Magnesium Trisilicate, for oral use, methylated spirit, an antiseptic for external application, and sanitizers designed for surface cleaning.
He emphasized that the efficacy of these products had undergone rigorous testing, with outstanding results achieved.
“The efficacy of the products had been tested and superb results were obtained,” Bot stated.
The next step, according to Bot, involves getting these products registered and certified by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
He assured that full-scale production would commence as soon as the agency secures the necessary NAFDAC approvals.
Bot also underscored the agency’s commitment to sourcing most of the materials locally, with only one component being imported.
This approach is expected to enhance both the accessibility and affordability of the medicines for the general public.
Highlighting the agency’s state-of-the-art pharmaceutical-grade warehouse, Bot noted that the facility is equipped with advanced temperature control systems and modern inventory management technology.
These features, coupled with stringent security measures, ensure that the warehouse maintains the quality and safety of medicines throughout the supply chain.
“This warehouse serves as a vital link between pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare providers, ultimately benefiting countless patients who rely on these essential medicines,” he added.
Bot extended his gratitude to Governor Caleb Mutfwang for placing the healthcare of Plateau State citizens as a top priority.
He praised the governor’s dedication to ensuring that residents receive the highest quality healthcare services.
The establishment of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency was a response to the challenges related to access, quality, availability, and affordability of drugs in government health facilities within the state.
The agency’s latest move marks a significant step towards improving healthcare delivery across the Plateau.
