The Delta State Police Command has apprehended over 12 suspected armed robbers during a strategic operation aimed at preventing their planned criminal activities.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
Edafe revealed that the suspects were intercepted while organizing their next operation, leading to the recovery of various weapons.
“While they were preparing for another operation, we moved in swiftly and arrested over twelve suspected armed robbers. Recovered items include an English pistol, a long double-barrel gun, a locally-made cut-to-size gun, and more than seven cutlasses,” he stated.
In a video accompanying the statement, two of the suspects admitted to scaling fences to gain entry into victims’ homes.
They also noted that some of their successful operations were due to homeowners neglecting to lock their doors at night.
SP Edafe urged residents to take proactive measures to safeguard their homes. “Please always lock your door, especially at night,” he advised.
