The Kogi State Police Command has reported the arrest of Police Inspector Aminu Mohammed for his alleged involvement in the robbery of a residence near his duty station at ‘C’ Division in Lokoja, the state capital.
According to The PUNCH, Spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP William Aya, Inspector Mohammed, confirmed that he was apprehended following the activities of a notorious gang known for robbing homes of valuables and vehicles.
The breakthrough came when a stolen car was traced to a workshop belonging to Arome Moses, a panel beater in Ochadamu near Anyigba.
“The vehicle, recognized from a recent robbery on June 14, 2024, had its appearance altered, and its plate number changed to one from Abuja,” Aya stated. “A backdated car dealer’s receipt, purportedly from 2020, was also presented by the officer as proof of purchase.”
He further explained that the alarm was raised by individuals familiar with the vehicle and aware of the robbery incident. Quick Response Unit officers swiftly responded, leading to the apprehension of Moses, the panel beater.
“A member of the robbery gang, long sought by the police for other crimes, confessed to the robbery and implicated the police officer as the mastermind,” Aya continued. “He admitted that their mission was to rob the residence and procure the car specifically for Inspector Mohammed.”
The investigation is ongoing as the police continue efforts to unravel the full extent of the criminal activities involving Inspector Aminu Mohammed and his alleged associates.
