Operatives from the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have arrested two individuals, Emmanuel Linus and Moses Daniel, for allegedly impersonating Nigerian Army personnel as part of a larger criminal syndicate.
Linus was arrested on 30th November 2024 at approximately 2:00 p.m. while wearing full Nigerian Army camouflage.
During initial questioning, Linus presented a fraudulent military ID, listing a birthdate of 20th December 2024, raising immediate concerns about the authenticity of the documents.
The Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, explained the suspects’ involvement in a fraud ring targeting unsuspecting victims.
“The group has been involved in defrauding people by purchasing goods and services using fake bank alerts,” Disu said. “Linus and Daniel are part of this criminal network, and we are actively working to apprehend other members involved.”
Disu also provided an update on the command’s recent crackdown on vehicle-related offenses. Following his directive, police have impounded 296 vehicles for violations including the use of tinted windows, defaced or missing number plates.
“Since the launch of the Special Tactical Team, we have made significant progress in curbing such offenses,” Disu noted.
In addition to the arrests, two suspects were apprehended for vandalizing streetlight poles and stealing valuable cables behind the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. The suspects, identified as Awal Mustaf and David Maji, a dismissed police officer, were arrested after five days of surveillance.
“We received a distress call regarding the destruction of streetlight infrastructure, and our team responded promptly,” said Disu.
The stolen cables, worth an estimated ₦20 million to ₦25 million, were recovered from the suspects. “This is a major breakthrough in the fight against infrastructure vandalism in the FCT,” Disu added.
A total of 16 suspects, 11 exhibits, and seven vehicles were paraded during the operation. The police have assured the public that further updates will follow as investigations continue.
