The Niger State Police Command has apprehended two individuals in connection with motorcycle theft and receiving stolen property, as part of efforts to curb criminal activities in the state.
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Usman, 18, and Mohammed Kola, 22, were arrested by the command’s Crack Squad following a complaint received on April 3 at around 2:30 p.m.
This was disclosed in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Tuesday in Minna.
“On March 28, at about 5:00 p.m., Usman posed as a passenger and boarded a motorcycle to a hotel around Tunga, near the Old City Gate. Upon arrival, he lured the rider into his hotel room, took his motorcycle key under false pretenses, locked the rider inside the room, and fled with the motorcycle,” Abiodun revealed.
He further explained that during the investigation, detectives arrested another suspect, identified as Abdullahi, who is already facing a pending case of criminal force and assault linked to a gang fight at a mining site in Paiko.
“Abdullahi led our operatives to the mining site in Paiko, where Usman was waiting to hand over the stolen motorcycle. He was arrested on the spot,” the spokesperson said.
Abiodun confirmed that two motorcycles were recovered from Abdullahi, who admitted that Usman had brought them to him for sale.
“Usman also confessed to the theft and revealed that one of the motorcycles was stolen earlier in March from a mining site in Obajana, Kogi State,” he added.
The two suspects are currently undergoing investigation at the Crack Squad office as police continue to trace other possible accomplices.
