The Edo State Police Command has apprehended two men found in possession of a firearm during a routine stop-and-search operation along Upper Sakponba Road in Benin City.
According to a statement released by the command on Thursday via X, the suspects, identified as 34-year-old Collins Evbayiro and 35-year-old O. Nagbagbonmuna, were intercepted by officers from the Ugbekun Division.
During the search, law enforcement officers discovered a locally fabricated cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun along with two live cartridges inside the suspects’ vehicle, a Toyota Yaris with the registration number BEN 777 XE.
“Officers from Ugbekun Division, while conducting a stop-and-search operation on Upper Sakponba Road, successfully apprehended two suspects in possession of a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun and live ammunition,” the statement from the Edo State Police Command revealed.
The police have launched an investigation to uncover the suspects’ motives and any possible links to criminal activities.
