The Benue State Police Command has officially prohibited the covering of vehicle and motorcycle number plates, declaring it an offense that will not be tolerated in the state.
This warning was issued by the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Hassan Steve Yabanet, in a statement signed by the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, and released to the press in Makurdi on Sunday.
Anene highlighted the rising trend of covering number plates in the state, which he described as a significant security risk.
He noted that this practice could enable criminals to commit crimes and escape without being identified.
The statement read, “Benue State Police Command wishes to inform the general public, particularly motorists and vehicle owners that covering vehicle number plate is an offence and will not be allowed in the state.”
