The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has initiated disciplinary action against a police officer accused of harassing a woman during a stop-and-search operation at the Galadimawa Roundabout in Abuja.
In a video circulating online, the woman claimed the officer slapped her and used pepper spray on her eyes multiple times during the incident, which reportedly occurred on the night of October 6, 2024.
“I didn’t do anything to these guys, I didn’t carry anything, I am not a criminal. They asked me to come down, I told them they could check my bag, but there was no need for me to step out of the car.
“Then they started harassing me, used pepper spray on my eyes three times, and slapped me,” she recounted in the video.
In response to the public outcry, the spokesperson for the FCT Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the victim had come forward and identified the officer involved.
“The officer stationed at Galadimawa Roundabout has been summoned, and disciplinary procedures, including a trial, have commenced,” Adeh stated in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday.
She also encouraged residents to report any misconduct through the command’s designated complaint channels to ensure swift action in such cases.
