The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has issued a cautionary advisory to residents, particularly young people and hiking groups, urging them to notify security agencies before engaging in camping or hiking activities.
In a statement released on Tuesday, FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, highlighted the security concerns linked to such outdoor adventures, especially in isolated and unsecured locations.
The command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said, “The FCT Police Command advises members of the public, especially youth groups, organizations, and hiking enthusiasts, to take necessary precautions before engaging in camping and hiking activities.”
She further relayed the Commissioner’s directive: “The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, stresses that organizers must inform the police before embarking on such activities. Failure to do so poses significant security risks, as remote locations are often vulnerable to criminal activities.”
Emphasizing the importance of collaboration with law enforcement, Adewale called for proper coordination to ensure safe routes and adequate security measures.
“The Command urges organizers to liaise with the police to obtain guidance on safe routes and ensure all participants are accounted for throughout the activity,” he stated.
He also stressed that maintaining communication with security agencies before and during such excursions could significantly enhance safety and emergency response efforts.
The police further encouraged residents to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and seek security assistance when necessary. They can reach the FCT Command through its emergency contact numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.
