The Akwa Ibom Police Command has launched a crackdown on vehicles with illegal tinted glasses, sirens, and covered number plates, warning motorists to comply with the ban or face consequences.
According to The PUNCH, the command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, the Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, has expressed concern over the increasing use of these items on private and unauthorized vehicles, posing a significant risk to public safety and order.
John said the Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, has ordered a clampdown on violators of this instruction and full enforcement for safety on all the roads in the state.
“Akwa Ibom State Police Command has issued a warning against the use of illegal tinted glass, sirens, and concealed number plates on vehicles. The Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, noted with dismay a rise in the use of these items on private and unauthorised vehicles.
“The use of tinted glass, sirens, and concealed number plates on vehicles constitutes a significant risk to public safety and order in the state. It makes it difficult for law enforcement officials to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities, thereby hindering their efforts to maintain a safe environment for Akwa Ibomites and residents in the state.”
This development comes after the Bauchi State Police Command also banned the use of tinted vehicle glasses and concealed number plates earlier in June.
