The operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have identified kidnappers’ camps located in Gidan Dogo and Kweti forests in Kaduna State, near the border with Abuja.
Spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed this development in a statement released on Sunday.
Adeh revealed that the operation took place on Friday, following credible intelligence on the criminal activities in the area.
During the operation, four suspects were apprehended: Yahaya Abubakar of Mpape, Mohammed Mohamed of Zuba (an ex-convict), Umar Aliyu, and Nura Abdullahi (also an ex-convict).
According to Adeh, the suspects admitted to being part of a notorious bandit syndicate known as ‘Mai One Million,’ which has been responsible for numerous kidnappings in the region.
“The coordinated operation resulted in a shootout between the bandits and the security operatives, forcing them to flee and leading to the rescue of victims. The illegally constructed structures by the kidnappers in all the patrolled camps were destroyed,” Adeh stated.
She added that the rescued victims have been reunited with their families and loved ones.
The commissioner of police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, praised the efforts of the security operatives in combating criminality in the nation’s capital.
