An investigation into an alleged assassination threat against a former vice chairman of the Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, Hon. Osameide Edorodion, has been launched by the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Police.
In a petition, Edorodion had informed the State Commissioner of Police and Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, of plots by one Festus Ekenaye Edegbe to assassinate him.
According to Edorodion’s plea to the state commissioner of police, Edegbe is a self-declared Okaighele of the neighborhood.
The petition was titled, ‘Case of Cultism, threat to life, unlawful possession of firearm and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace’.
Edorodion claimed that in addition to attacking him physically and inflicting injuries on him, Edegbe had made grave threats to kill him and his entire family.
According to him, Edegbe also seized and sold Edorodion’s land in the neighborhood.
Additionally, Edorodion requested that the governor and the police commissioner order Edegbe to order so that he (Edorodion) could freely carry out his daily duties.
He continued, “Sir, this is the third petition of threat to my life without result.”
The state commissioner of police, Mohammed Dankwara, acknowledged receiving the petition and announced that a team of intelligent officers had been assembled to conduct a thorough inquiry into the allegations.
