The Katsina State Police Command has launched a manhunt to capture those responsible for the brutal killing of Aliyu Yahaya, a member of the Nigerian Hunters Association, in the Jibia Local Government Area.
According to The PUNCH, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the ongoing investigation on Wednesday, stating, “Efforts are in full swing to apprehend the perpetrators as our investigation continues.”
On August 13, suspected terrorists stormed Yahaya’s residence in Magamar-Jibia, located within the Mazanya district of Jibia LGA. The assailants shot Yahaya, set his body on fire, and abducted his wife, son, and three neighbors.
Describing the tragic event, Salisu Yahaya, a family member, recounted, “At about 2:00 a.m. on August 13, 2024, armed men scaled the wall of Aliyu’s house. They fatally shot him and then set his body ablaze in his room. Even after being shot, he tried to defend his family from abduction, but the attackers overpowered him and took his loved ones.”
Basiru Muhammad, a colleague of the late Yahaya, expressed profound grief over the loss, describing Yahaya as a dedicated individual who sacrificed his life in service to his community.
“He was a patriotic young man committed to the safety of his people. His death is a significant loss for all of us,” Muhammad said.
He also urged authorities to implement robust security measures to prevent further tragedies in the area and across the state.
Amadu Bello, a neighbor whose two wives and mother-in-law were also abducted, pleaded for swift action from the government. “I call on the government to act urgently to protect residents from these terrorist activities.
The lack of sufficient security personnel has made our communities vulnerable,” he said.
A traditional titleholder in the area, Aminu Dan Mugyanbo, echoed the call for stronger security, urging the state governor, Dikko Radda, to address the growing insecurity in Magamar-Jibia and other parts of the Jibia Local Government Area.
“As we face the ongoing threat of these attacks, our community will continue to support the local vigilante groups in their efforts to protect lives,” Dan Mugyanbo affirmed.
