The Borno State Police Command has apprehended Muhammad Idrissa, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, on allegations of providing cooking supplies to Boko Haram insurgents in the state.
The arrest was confirmed by the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, on Tuesday.
Daso revealed that intelligence reports had led to the suspect’s capture and assured that Idrissa would soon face prosecution in court.
During an interview with newsmen, Idrissa confessed to aiding the insurgents, citing his younger brother’s involvement as a motivating factor.
“I started recently, and I have only supplied them five times. I normally supply them with cooking items like Maggi, cooking oil, salt, and pepper,” Idrissa admitted.
He further elaborated on his previous role within the Civilian Joint Task Force and how his actions unfolded before his arrest.
“I was a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force before I was arrested. What I do is give my younger brother the items, and he takes them to the camp where he resides with his fellow Boko Haram members.
“I don’t have any other reason for doing this. I was only helping my junior brother, knowing that they do not have access to these items where they are,” he explained.
When questioned about how he was apprehended, Idrissa recounted, “I was at home when the police called me to come to the station, and upon getting there, I was arrested.”
