Ogun State Police Command has successfully apprehended a 35-year-old man, Olamilekan Akojede, a suspected leader of the notorious Alora cult group.
The arrest took place in the Oja Odan area of Yewa-North Local Government on Friday afternoon, around 2:30 pm.
Spokesperson for the State Police Command,bOmolola Odutola, who shared the development in a statement on her X handle, revealed that Akojede has long been a target of the police due to his alleged involvement in various criminal activities that have sown fear and unrest within the local community.
“Akojede, identified as the leader of the Alora confraternity, has been terrorizing Oja Odan. He was arrested at approximately 1430 hours today, and arrangements are being made to transfer him to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation,” Odutola stated. “
“He has been causing panic and has been on the watch list for some time,” she added
The command has been vigilant in its efforts to combat cultism, which has been a persistent issue in the state.
Odutola emphasized the police’s commitment to eradicating cult-related activities and urged other cult members to reconsider their paths, pointing to Akojede’s arrest as a warning.
“They should take a leaf from this person who has been apprehended, to accept the amnesty program and be better sons to their families,” she stated.
This arrest follows a surge in cult-related violence within the state over the past week, which has resulted in more than three fatalities.
The command is continuing its crackdown on such activities to ensure peace and security in the affected areas.
