Anambra State Police Command has disclosed that has launched an investigation into the gunmen who carried out the Thursday attack on the office of the Anambra State Vigilante Service in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state .
According to The PUNCH, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, made this known in a statement on Sunda.
He noted that the Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered probe into the attack, stating that efforts are ongoing to identify and smash the gang behind the attack.
Some yet-to-be-identified hoodlums on Thursday attacked the office of the Anambra State AVG in Amichi, Nnewi South LGA and set one of the buildings in the premises ablaze.
The miscreants who came in their large numbers equally set ablaze a vigilante operative who they met inside one of the vehicles parked in front of the office. They burnt the man and the vehicle together.
Reacting to the incident in a statement, the police spokesperson explained that the commissioner has promised residents that they would do everything in their capacity to fish the gunmen who attacked and burnt the vigilante office.
“The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has assured the peace loving people of the state that no stone will be left unturned in hunting down the gunmen who attacked and burnt the vigilante office in Amichi, Nnewi South LGA.
“The CP condoled with the town and people on the loss of a vigilante operative during the attack. He disclosed that effort is ongoing to identify and smash the gang behind the attack.
“He commended vigilante groups across the state for their commitment to the protection of the citizenry and assured that the police would do all within its powers to protect them,” the statement read.
Ikenga said the CP has also directed police tactical teams and special forces across the state to respond promptly to all distress calls from vigilante groups anytime they come under attack.
“He prayed for the sweet repose of the vigilante operative who lost his life in the attack and assured that his death will not be in vain,” the statement added.
