The Lagos State Police Command has successfully rescued a two-month-old baby boy from a couple, Mr. and Mrs. James Uwam, during the child’s naming ceremony.
Spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement shared X on Saturday, explained that the Uwams had paid N2,350,000 to acquire the baby from Loretta Nelson, a suspected child trafficker.
Nelson, in turn, had purchased the baby from Pastor Peter Udoh for N1,450,000.
Hundeyin revealed that Udoh had initially bought the baby for N500,000 from another alleged trafficker, Gloria Sunday, who had stolen the baby on July 11, 2024.
The child’s mother reported the incident to the police, prompting an investigation.
Following the mother’s report, Hundeyin said the police swiftly arrested Sunday, who then led detectives from the Oko Oba Division to apprehend other suspects linked to the crime.
Hundeyin stated that during interrogation, Sunday confessed to selling the baby to Udoh for N500,000.
Pastor Udoh, who was arrested in Ikene Town, Ogun State, admitted to reselling the child to Nelson for N1,450,000.
Nelson, subsequently apprehended in Festac Town, Lagos, confessed to selling the baby to Mr. and Mrs. Uwam for N2,350,000.
The PPRO said, “Detectives swung into action which led to the arrest of Gloria Sunday who during interrogation confessed to selling the baby for N500,000 to one Pastor Peter Udoh.
“Pastor Udoh, who was subsequently arrested in Ikene Town, Ogun State, admitted reselling the child for N1,450,000 to one Loretta Nelson who was then also apprehended in Festac Town, Lagos.”
The Uwams were apprehended during the naming ceremony of the stolen child.
Hundeyin emphasized that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will face court proceedings upon the conclusion of the investigation.
